Life expectancy

Life expectancy is in average 71.50 years for the Jordanian population. The fecundity index is 3.70 children by woman in childbearing age.

The structure of the population

Most of the Jordanian population is composed of Arab origin (98 %). But we find also in the country other ethnic groups: Circassians (population coming from Caucasus , who fled the Russian occupation and sought refuge in the Ottoman empire ), Armenians (1 %), Druze etc.

The religious structure

The religion of the largest proportion of the population is Islam. There also exists a Christian community (6 % of the population with an Orthodox Greek majority but also Catholics, Assyrians, Copts, Armenians and Protestants).

The great majority of Muslims are of Sunni allegiance (92 %) and there is also a minority of Shiite and Druze.
